HUMAN RIGHTS POLICY CENTER
About:
The Human Rights Center endeavors to create public policy solutions that guarantee essential rights and freedoms for all persons. While this center's larger goal is to expand the reach and acceptance of human rights as a normative framework, we also work to create change in our local community that reflects this mission. This year, policy analyst Hudi Potash is exploring policy solutions to reduce the maternal mortality racial gap and preterm births in his hometown, Louisiana. Interested in equal access to education as an essential human right, policy analyst Romir Karnik is exploring how to ensure widespread access to online educational instruction in LAUSD. Lastly, policy analyst Peter Henry is exploring how California's State Legislature should expand its current ban on "willful defiance" suspensions in order to mitigate the disproportionate effect of suspensions on students of color.
