ABOUT ROOSEVELT AT USC

Resized_Resized_20210920_210120.jpeg

Roosevelt Network at USC is a student-run, policy think-tank focused on the research, advocacy, and discussion of progressive policy issues. We offer a community for students to research their own policy interests, supported by research directors and skills training workshops. We also provide an open forum for discussing current events and relevant legislation. Guided by our research, we lead advocacy initiatives, at the university, local, state, and national level. We work on the areas of education, environment and energy, foreign affairs, health, human rights, and transportation.

NATIONAL NETWORK

As an affiliate of the Roosevelt Network, Roosevelt Network at USC is part of a national association of Roosevelt Network chapters at universities all over the country. Members have the opportunity to contribute to the Roosevelt Network’s national journal, 10 Ideas, which publishes outstanding student research.

We are a community of students working on improving access to public goods by combining strong policy research with meaningful advocacy, supporting members by giving them the tools necessary to put their ideas into action. We welcome members with any level of experience.

OUR STRUCTURE

WEEKLY MEETINGS

As as a progressive think tank, we are committed to not just analyzing problems but discussing pragmatic policy solutions. We host weekly meetings on the policy writing process and discussions on issues that run the policy gamut. The first half of the meeting is dedicated to help members (policy analysts) get acquainted with the policy writing process. During the second half of the meeting policy research directors help policy analysts on individual policy research projects.

POLICY CENTER INITIATIVES

In addition to weekly meetings, Roosevelt at USC also provides more focused opportunities for members. We are organized into three Policy Centers that work on yearly and semesterly initiatives. We encourage members to participate in national level opportunities from the Roosevelt Institute such as:

  • 10 Ideas Journal

  • Fireside Chats

  • Hyde Park

  • Forge Fellowship

  • Emerging Fellowship

  • Professional Development Trainings

  • Regional Conferences

ROOSEVELT REVIEW JOURNAL

Since Spring 2019, Roosevelt at USC has published the Roosevelt Review, our policy journal. All Roosevelt members are highly encouraged to write a piece for the Roosevelt Network for a center of their choosing. Usually, the policy pieces are written over the course of the semester and edited in the final weeks of the semester. Even if you do not have experience writing policy, that's totally okay! Most people do not. We provide policy-writing workshops and writers work closely with experienced Policy Research Directors throughout the writing process.
