West Region Lobbying Day | California State Assembly

DSC_0311.JPG
In April 2020 after recieving the USG Leadership Fund, Roosevelt Network at USC in collaboration with other Roosevelt chapters in the West Region worked with Roosevelt Alumnus, Kevin Powers (Committee Consultant at California State Assembly), to organize a lobby day at the State Capitol. Unfortunately due to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in late March, we had to postpone the in-person lobbying day. In Spring 2021, we are hoping to organize a virtual lobbying day with similar stakeholders to advance our policy work and organizing efforts!

JUNE 3, 2020

Over the past week, Roosevelt@USC has been working to draft an open letter to Mayor Eric Garcetti in response to his 2020-2021 proposed budget. In his budget, Mayor Garcetti wanted to CUT funding for social services (funds helping the most vulnerable during the COVID-19 pandemic) and INCREASE funding for the LAPD. Urging Mayor Garcetti to reconsider, and inspired by students from Occidental College, students from Roosevelt@USC drafted an open letter with the input of USC students and organizations.
